Ellen Jean Fisher

Ellen Jean Fisher, of Ashland, Missouri passed away on December 23, 2022, with her children at her side.

Ellen was born June 29th, 1960 to Thomas Dysart Fisher and Frances Imogene (Mckinzie) Fisher, in Columbia MO. The family moved to Ashland, MO in 1968. As a child, Ellen enjoyed working with her parents at their various small businesses in Ashland. Ellen graduated from Southern Boone Highschool in 1978, and not long after began her career at GTE, eventually retiring in 2010. She had two children, Emily S. (Fisher) White and Derek J. Fisher. Later in life, Ellen returned to school, graduating with her Associates of Science in Business Management in 2015. Though she never fully realized her dream of becoming a granny rocker for the children’s hospital, she delighted in spending her final years being a devoted grandmother to her beloved grandchildren.

Ellen had many passions. She loved music, singing, baking, reading, shopping, and she loved being a tow truck dispatcher after retirement. Ultimately, her greatest passions were her children, grandchildren, and her faith. Perhaps it was her faith that encouraged her to take on responsibility for those she came in contact with that needed help. She was always there to offer a smile, a hug, an ear to listen, a meal, or even a place to stay. She was a beacon of comfort for those that had the privilege to be near her.

Ellen was preceded in death by her loving parents, Dysart and Jean Fisher, her chosen son, Jakob Robb, and two nieces, Christine Leigh Fisher and Rebecca Ann Fisher.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Robert Calvin of Ashland, brothers, Donald W. Fisher of Columbia, Thomas D. Fisher Jr. of Ashland, and David N. Fisher of Ashland; children, Emily (Vernon) White of Columbia, and Derek (Katie) Fisher of Ashland; and her grandchildren, Avery P. Fisher of Columbia, Violet S. Zimmerman of Sturgeon, Vee A. Zimmerman of Sturgeon, Vari E. Zimmerman of Sturgeon, Elizabeth J. Noble-Fisher of Ashland, Annabella G. Fisher of Ashland, and Vernon E. O. White of Columbia, as well as countless chosen children and grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 7th at 3pm at New Hope Baptist Church, 6210 E Claysville Rd, Hartsburg, MO 65039. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
