Erica Marie Benton-Grover, “Big E” passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday, July 30, 2018.
Born July 16, 1971, in Kansas City, Kansas to the late Alvin L. Finley and LaHoma Benton. Erica attended school in the Kansas City Area graduating from Van Horn High School in 1989. In her senior year she joined the Army Reserve and served from 1988 until 1994. She attended Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi. Erica earned an Associates in Science Degree from Daytona College. Erica’s employment history included Harley Davidson, Apria, Truman Medical Center and Cerner Corporation. She also owned her own corporation, E Marie, Inc., where she helped people learn to become entrepreneurs. Until her health failed Erica was employed by Physicians Office Partners where she used her certifications (CBCS, CEHRS, CMAA) and previous experience in Medical Coding and Billing. Erica married Craig Grover and had 3 children in that union. Her happiest times were spent raising Dominick, Isis and Eric. She was a patient, caring, adoring and understanding Mother and Grandmother. Erica instilled her children with her “Warrior Spirit” that she used throughout her life. She enjoyed watching movies, going to concerts and partying with friends and family. Erica is survived by Craig, their 3 Children, Dominick, Isis and Eric; Granddaughter Miyaun K.; Sisters: Crystal Benton, Columbia, MO; Dena Benton, Kansas City, MO; Shalon Finley, Hawthorne, CA; Uncles: Robert Benton, Kansas City, MO; Rayfield Jr. (Lana) Benton, Cleveland, Ohio; Booker T Jr. (Lovie) Finley, Kansas City, KS; Milton (Lisa) Finley, Kansas City, KS; Aunts: Yvonne Benton, Kansas City, MO; Jackie (Butch) Benton-Carson, Midwest City, OK; Burnetta (Christopher) Pritchett, Fontana, CA; Jackie (Arthur) Boykin, Kansas City, KS; Paralee (Norman) Parris, Kansas City, MO; Life-long friends Adrienne Taylor, Lisa Cushon, Nicole Cobb, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her Maternal Grandparents, Rayfield Sr. & Arlene Benton and her Paternal Grandparents, Booker T Sr. & Margree Finley.

I was so saddened to hear of Erica’s passing. She was a dear friend and just a wonderful person. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

You have my deepest sympathy – I will always cherish my time with Erica when she worked at the H-D plant. I loved hearing stories about her children and always enjoyed the fun and laughter we shared. I was blessed to call her “friend”. RIP Erica – until I see you again
