Eugene Williams

Eugene Williams, 73 of Lone Jack, MO passed away unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep April 4, 2024.

Eugene (Gene) was born in Astoria Queens New York to Eugene and Mary Williams. Gene attended public and Catholic school and served as an Alter Boy. He grew up in Queens and enjoyed stickball in the street and the closeness of his friends and cousins. Gene graduated from Thomas Edison High in 1969 and lived in Queens until he transferred with Pfizer to Lee’s Summit MO and moved with his wife Karen Turkovitz Williams and three children. Gene later married Diane McBroom in 1984. Gene, Diane and her daughter Aubree Cook moved to Lone Jack in 1985 where Gene and Diane have lived ever since. He enjoyed the wide open spaces and large yard compared to New York lifestyle. Gene enjoyed traveling and took many vacations, even hiking the Grand Canyon. When Gene and Diane went on their first cruise celebrating their fifth anniversary, he was hooked and immediately booked another four months later to share the experience with his children Sue, David and Aubree.

After leaving Pfizer in 1992 Gene enjoyed owning and operating a Baseball Card Comic Book shop with his close friend/cousin in law Kelly. Finally he found his fit working at Durvet Distribution Center in Blue Springs where he stayed until he retired in 2007.

Gene loved his family, his dogs, playing softball, the Beatles, his Oakland Raiders (with great frustration) and traveling. He was a quiet man but those who got to know him were lucky and he will be missed by many.

Gene was preceded in death by his father Eugene and mother Mary Williams, his brother-in-law, Tommy Hodes and nephew Zachary Hodes. He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Diane. His daughters Jennifer Williams, Suzanne (Jason) Trevorrow, Aubree Cook and son David (Dawnisa) Williams. Grandchildren Hillary Prettyman, Trevor Yearout, Tristan Long and Jesalyn Mercer. Sisters, Ruthie (Butch) Lorenzo and Joann Hodes. Nieces and nephews Kevin Cooper, Neal Cooper, Cheryl Valentine and Samantha Hodes, 4 great grand children and many loving cousins and friends.

Everyone has a birth and death date but the dash in between represents your life. Enjoy and live your dash to the fullest.

A Celebration of Life will be Friday, May 3rd, 2024, from 5 to 7 PM at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 802 NW Vesper St Blue Springs, MO 64015.

In lieu of flowers, spend time with your loved ones and hug them a little longer.
