Finis W. Stephenson

Finis W. Stephenson, 81, of Raymore, Missouri passed away May 24, 2020. He was born in Marshall, Missouri, the son of Clarence and Alma (Jolliff) Stephenson. He married Doris Jean (Cowick) in 1957. To this union were added three children, Terrance Dale, Michael Wayne, and Tamela Jean.

Before settling into the profession of painting, Finis worked in a gold mine, in a shoe factory, and in construction. He was a dedicated worker, rarely missing a day of work, even if it meant walking to work in a South Dakota winter. He was a member of Painters’ District Council 16 and of Bay Area Tapers and Painters Local 3 for a total of 33 years.

In 1983, Finis relocated to California, where he lived in Fremont, Salida, Modesto, and Eureka, with brief stays in Arizona and Oregon. He returned to Missouri in July, 2019, spending his remaining days in the Redwood of Raymore Memory Care Unit.

Finis was happiest when he was making things beautiful, whether it was painting, remodeling, restoring antiques, woodworking, or lawn care. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether to family, friends, or complete strangers.

He was preceded in death by both parents, a brother, Edward Dale Stephenson, a sister, Wanda Ruth Warren, and a son, Terrance.

He is survived by two children, Michael Stephenson, and wife Tami; and Tammy Schroer, and husband Ron. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Matthew Stephenson, Mitchell Jeck (and wife Dionne), Jennifer Jensen (and husband Aaron), Anthony Guss (and wife Tiffany), Jeremy Stephenson (and wife Patty), Rachel Corr (and husband Kevin), Jennifer Smith (and husband Zach), Bethany Schroer, and Zach Schroer; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
