Frederick “Fred” Clinton Thurber, 50, of Independence, Mo., passed away June 30, 2006, at the VA Medical Center. A visitation will be held 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2006, at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd in Raytown, Mo. A military graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harvesters or Cancer Action. Fred was born June 25, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri. He honorably served for 18 years in the USMC, earning the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He was a member of Mt. Washington Baptist Church in Independence, Mo. Fred is preceded in death by father, Fritz Thurber; step father, Chuck Dale; brothers, Chuck and Tom, and infant sister, Lisa Dale. Survivors include sons Joshua and Alex Thurber; daughter, Jessica Thurber; mother, Mary Dale; sister, Karen Miller, and grandson Patrick.
