Gail Frances (Lynch) Lucas, 89, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, with family by her side, in Olathe, Kansas, after a brief illness. Gail was born on September 11, 1937, to Rachelle C. and James B. Lynch in New York City. She came to Kansas City, Missouri, with her family in 1951–1953 and graduated from Southeast High School in 1954. After completing Certified Dental Assistant training, Gail worked briefly in the field before moving into the business world where she became an executive secretary, working for architectural and manufacturing firms in the area over the next 50 years. As an avid animal lover and regular volunteer at the American Royale, she realized her love of horses and eventually purchased a two-acre home with a barn in South Kansas City for “Sunny Girl,” a Palomino, which she rode with friends in the area.
After full-time work, Gail’s active and outgoing nature led her to continue working well into her 80s. She forged new friendships, preserved existing ones, and served as a caregiver to her aging mother and son Christopher, who developed a disability later in life. Above all, Gail cherished the love of her children and the many friends she acquired through work, leisure, and a wealth of social activities.
Gail is preceded in death by her son Christopher A. Tankersley; father James B. Lynch; and mother Rachel C. (LaFace) Lynch. She is survived by her son R. Scott Kelley.
The family expresses their deep gratitude to the caregivers, staff, and faith community at Villa St. Francis, Catholic Community Health, Olathe, Kansas, where Gail received extraordinary kindness and care throughout her stay. Any donations in Gail’s remembrance can be made to Villa St. Francis to support their rehabilitation, ministry, and care missions.
