Gary Allan Shamp, 66, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022 at North Kansas City Hospital after a 7 month battle to fight back from an injury and subsequent complications. He was a fighter and that showed in his battles to recover. He seemed to be on the road to recovery, and then we were all reminded of how fragile life really is.
Gary was born on August 3, 1955 in Kansas City, MO to Gayle W. and Doris L. (Jarrett) Shamp. Gary was the 3rd eldest of 8 siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents Gayle and Doris; his daughter Nicole Lynn; brothers Gayle Jr. and Jerry; sister Valencia. He is survived by the love of his life Pamela Shamp of Independence, MO; his children Melissa Shamp of St. Croix, USVI, Cheri Roller (Josh) of Buckner, MO, Logan Shamp of Independence, MO, and Landon Shamp of Independence, MO; his brothers Stacey Shamp (Deeanna) of Lee’s Summit, MO and Richard Shamp (Bessie) of Tonganoxie, KS; his sisters Christine Boggs of Montrose, MO and Diana Shamp of Shawnee, KS; grandsons Trenton Roller (Taylor), Gavin Roller, and Ashton Roller all of Buckner, MO; 3 granddaughters; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

Gary grew up in Kansas City, MO and began a career in the electrical supply industry at a very young age, where he spent the entirety of his adult career. He truly enjoyed the socialization opportunities that came from meeting and interacting with countless people in the industry. He didn’t know a stranger. He could often be found either on a golf course with friends or his brothers, or at a casino playing slots, oftentimes with his sons. He enjoyed the Friday night lights of Fort Osage Football where he spent many a Friday night cheering on his grandsons. At times, it was hard to tell if he came for the football or for the concession stand double cheeseburgers. He loved to eat but most of all he saw mealtime as an opportunity to spend time with the people that he loved. That’s where he found his peace. Be it a conversation over coffee or a meal, it was really about the quality time. He loved coffee! He should have bought stock in QuikTrip coffee. His first stop almost everyday was QT for a hot cup. It was his fuel. Everyone that knows him knows that if he loved you, he loved you without question or judgment and would do anything he could to be there if he was needed. He was ornery, stubborn, funny, authentic, and loyal and will be greatly missed by many.

Cremation by Heartland Cremation & Burial Society. A celebration of life will be held July 31st, 2022 from 3p-5p at Hidden Valley Park, Shelter #1 located at 6500 NW Valley View Road in Blue Springs, MO.
