Gerald “Jerry” D. Ireland

Gerald “Jerry” D. Ireland passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 27th, 2025 in Lenexa, Ks. and was born to Larry and Viola Ireland on November 23,1942 in Holton,Ks. He is preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter. Jerry is survived by his spouse {Ellen} of almost 38 years, 4 children, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and one more is expected in October. Two brothers and one sister as well as nieces and nephews. He enjoyed spending time with family, coaching his son’s T-Ball team, playing golf, poker night, KU Basketball, Royals Baseball and KC Chiefs Football.

Jerry proudly served his country for 22 years in the U.S. Navy. During his enlistment he was stationed on the USS Bennington, USS Piedmont and USS Wisconsin. He was able to see most of the world during his time of service with the Navy and retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After his Naval retirement he worked as an Office Manager for Memorial Hospital in Topeka, Ks and KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Ks. He also worked for Tricare at Fort Leavenworth, Ks. Jerry also proudly volunteered time to serve his community as an elected official on the Kansas Silver Haired Legislature {KSHL}. His duties with the KSHL included advocating to protect the quality of life, grandparent and other rights of the elderly population in Kansas and specifically in Johnson County, Ks. This is a cause that was particularly important to him. During his Naval Service he was able to observe the health care systems of other countries, particularly England.

A memorial service will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery 395 Biddle Blvd, Fort Leavenworth, Ks 66027 at 1:30pm on October 10, 2025 followed by a Celebration of Life from 3pm-5pm at Legacy Christian Church 10150 Antioch Rd. Overland Park, Ks 66212.
