Glenn Hunter

Glenn Hunter, 90, Independence, MO, passed away June 6, 2005, at Medical Center of Independence. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 18 at Heartland Cremation and Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO. No reception following the service. Glenn was born February 1, 1915, in Damsel, MO, to Edgar and Lura (Shipman) Hunter. He was a 50 year member of International Association of Machinists Union Lodge 277, and retired as their Business Representative after 29 years of service. Glenn was also the founding member of Heart of America Boat Club. He was an auto mechanic all of his life and owned and operated Hunter Automotive during WWII. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Victor, and one sister, Bonita Markley. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ruth, of the home; children Glenn W. Hunter and wife Debbie, Tempe, AZ, Terry Hunter and wife Marge, Lenexa, KS, Mary Penfield and husband Wynn, OK, and David Hunter; stepchildren Anita Wirth, Dave Allen, Kathleen Migletz, Philip Wirth, Judy McCaine, and Dominie Bennion; brother Ivan Hunter, Mountain Home, AR; 26 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Two of Glenn’s grandchildren are serving their country in the military: Marine Corporal David Shayani, Camp Pendleton, CA, recently returning from Faluja, Iraq, and previously serving in Baghdad during the worst of the conflict, and Private Sam Bennion, serving in Kuwait. Both are home on special leave for their grandpa’s memorial service. Glenn had many traits, such as being known as a “Mr. Fix-It,” however his greatest accomplishment in life was being the world’s greatest grandpa and greatgrandpa. Glenn’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Maywood Terrace Living Center for their loving care during Glenn’s recent illness, and to the 5th floor staff and ICU department at Medical Center of Independence.
