Glenn Lester Smead

Glenn Lester Smead, 93, Jefferson City, MO, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Truman VA Hospital in Columbia.   A truly unique individual, he was a businessman, mayor, chiropractor, philosopher, and holistic healer.  He was proud of his stint in WW II serving in the European theatre.  In Holden he served as mayor.  While early on a doctor of chiropractic, he became a holistic healer that combined many skills and techniques to customize the treatment to the individual.  He took pride in treating those not responding to traditional treatments.  As a small businessman he started several nursing homes and was instrumental in the founding of John Calvin Manor and John Knox Village.  He was preceded in death by his son, Norman Smead. He is survived by his wife, Setsuko; his son Robert and his daughter, Anne; his grandchildren, Matthew, Erica, Jamie, Daniel, and Amber. He also leaves behind his nephews Jim and Dick Webster and Chet Cline.  A graveside memorial service will be on Saturday December 6th, starting at 1:00 PM at Elm Cemetery, Elm MO.

Kim, we sincerely regret the loss of your husband. He has done many wonderful things in his lifetime. There are going to be a lot of people in his past who will miss his presence. We are pleased to be part of your life through Gerbes, and are happy to assist you in any way we can. We will be thinking of you during this tragedy in your life.

I am writing from Galway, Ireland, where both Glenn and Kimiko were very highly regarded and much loved. I got to know Glenn shortly after adopting my daughter Li Lu in 2000 and he was our friend, neighbour and healer over many years. Interestingly, I wrote our Christmas card on Thanksgiving day; the day he decided to leave this world. Warm regards to Kimiko.
