Greg was my best friend when we were growing up and did everything together I will miss him, hope the rest of the family is healthy. God Bless
Greg was my best friend from Riverview Gardens High School in St Louis. We seemed to always share similar trials and successes. Our “man to man” talks were legendary and now precious to me.
We were each others Best Man in our weddings and we each saved one another at key moments of need. I love you brother, rest well.
I enjoyed talking football with Greg, both of us had a passion for the sport. Greg will be missed by a lot of people but none more than his immediate family. God’s blessings to you, Barb and to the boys. Stephanie and I are there for you if need anything
It was such a shock to hear about Greg. He was a very good friend in our college days at Warrensburg. One of the things we did was to run and exercise together so he could keep in shape for the Marine Corps summer officer training program. We lived in the same dorm across the hall from each other. He was truly a good guy. My prayers are with the family during this time of sorrow.
I had Mr Mac as a teacher in Junior high at Ervin Jr. High. He was a great teacher. My prayers go out to his family with their lose.
As a teacher Greg exuded competence, commitment, and control. He commanded his classroom, and in this domain he provided structure and organization for students, many of whose lives were often ruled by inconsistency and chaos, who thrived on his routine. He brought these same strengths to the football field where he continued to inspire young men to whom football was a passion.
As a colleague I will always consider it my good fortune to have taught with Greg. He worked hard and was a leader whose opinion was respected.
As a friend he never forgot to send birthday and Christmas cards. I’ll always remember him as a good listener
whose slow smile reflected the caring person he was. My thoughts are with his family and friends who face this loss.
I love you coach Mac . And I am glad I got to tell you were always my favorite I always look forward to seeing and I will never look at a football field the same so for one last time you are and will always be my favorite coach ……I love you coach Mac Nick j Davis
It was my good fortune to have hired Mac in 1974 to the Ervin Junior High staff. Mac was a great teacher, a great coach, and a positive staff and student role model. I will always remember him as a loyal friend. I can still hear Mac saying with a smile to his classes, “Now, listen up, folks” in that ex-Marine voice. In our 16 years together at Ervin, I could always count on Mac to help with student and staff activities. I will truly miss our birthday and Christmas card exchanges. When I retired in 1990, Mac wrote me a nice note and signed it, “Mac–your friend and son.” I will always cherish that thought. My sincere sympathy goes to Mac’s loving family.
I’m so glad I knew you. You were like Bill, a wonderful teacher and person.
Mac was a great friend and I am very fortunate to have gotten to know him over the past three years. He was a great man.
I will miss the stories that we shared at the end of the hall at Ervin. Then while we coach football together hearing you retell the stories we shared at Hickman. I am a better person for being able to share in your life. God Bless you.
Coach MacDonald was definitely a bright spot in my academic and football life. From my civics teacher at Ervin to being there when I played the last game my senior year at Hickman. I feel truly blessed that I had the chance to have a great man like Coach help shape me in my youth. You will be missed!
Coach Mac:
Thank you for all you’ve given to a bunch of knuckleheads in football pads nearly 20 years ago. The admiration, respect, and love that you recieve from the Kansas City community first began with you and your tireless efforts at making the world we live in a better place.
Because of your passion for life, you’ve provided us with timeless memories and true blessings for generations to come. We love you Coach Mac!
Coach Mac will always be in my memories of some of the best times in my life. I loved his passion for football and the genuine care for the boys he coached. Thanks Coach Mac for EVERYTHING!
My deepest sympathy to the MacDonald family on behalf of the Rose family.
“There’s no place I’d rather be!” – Coach Mac
I was fortunate to have Mr. Mac as a teacher at Ervin Jr. High. He was one of the best teachers I ever had. He was intelligent, understanding, disciplined and truly interested in the best for all students. I feel lucky to have known him and his smile will be forever missed. My thoughts are with his family.
My condolences to the family. Greg was a great colleague at Ervin–respected, competent, congenial, professional. It was a privilege to have known him. Blessings on the family!

I am just hearing about Mr. Mac’s death, two and a half years after the fact, and it still made me cry. He was my all-time favorite teacher, and I’m sure he never knew. Why do we not tell our teachers what they’ve meant to us? I kept every page of notes from his World History class, and when I read through them, 30 years later, I can still hear his voice, pacing the front of the room, weaving history into one epic cliffhanger after another. Made me history-crazy for life.
It does not surprise me that two of my other all-time best teachers have commented here; Miss Fletcher and Miss Thompson. All three of you were instrumental in keeping this scared, heartbroken little girl focused on what I knew I still had; my brain. I still read my Ray Bradbury and Guy de Maupassant, Miss Fletcher. And I still write, Miss Thompson. Thanks so very much for believing in me. I’m sure you don’t hear that enough, and you absolutely should.
And Mr. Mac, I thank you with all I am. History has much to teach, and you have my gratitude for showing me how to listen for the lesson. God bless you.
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful post with us.
