Helen F. Sprang, 84, died Friday, September 25 at Presbyterian Manor of Kansas City, where she had been a resident for six years.
A memorial service will be held at 6p.m. on Tuesday, September 29 in the chapel at Presbyterian Manor, 7850 Freeman Ave. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at Presbyterian Manor. (Please specify that the donation should stay with the KCK Manor.)
Helen was born January 28, 1925 at Denton, Kansas. She moved to Kansas City, Kansas in the mid forties with her late husband, Ralph. She worked at the Nellie Don Garment Factory in Kansas City, Mo., and later she and her husband operated a gas station and café in Turner. She was a long-time employee at Feagan’s Café on Minnesota Avenue in KCK. She continued to work there when her daughter, Loretta Colombel, bought the restaurant and re-named it Loretta’s Café. She retired in the late 90s and moved to Presbyterian Manor in 2003.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Grace Callahan and her husband Ralph D. Sprang. She is survived by her son, Ralph (Gene) Sprang, of Dallas, Texas, and daughter, Loretta Colombel and her husband, William Epperheimer, of Kansas City, Kansas.
Also surviving are her sister, Loretta Pycior of Bonner Springs and seven grandchildren: Keith Colombel (Jeanette) and Mark Colombel of Kansas City, Kansas; and Michelle, Gina, Michael, Andrea, and Samantha Sprang, all of whom reside in Texas. Six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild also survive.
