Henry Wood

Henry Surry Wood, 77, Recently moved from Heber Springs, Arkansas to Independence, MO, passed away July 22, 2011. Military graveside services will be held August 1, 2011, 10:00 AM at Oakland Fraternal Cemeteries, 2101 Barber Ave., Little Rock, AR 72206.

Henry was born March 13, 1934.  Henry was a retired Deputy Jailer at Pulaski County Detention Center in Little Rock, AR.  He was a US Naval Veteran, serving 7/21/53 to 7/15/55 aboard USS K.D. Bailey (DD-713), with Honorable Discharge and recipient of Navy Occupation Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.  Henry was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Post 1000 of Independence, MO;  American Legion, Post 64 of Heber Springs, AR, previously serving as Asst. Sergeant of Arms; Fraternal Order of Police, Pulaski County, AR; and a Member of the Protestant Church.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Georgia Wood of Little Rock, AR; uncle Surry and aunt Eline Wood of Norfolk, VA; and brother George Wood of Dallas, TX.

Survivors include: daughter, Ann Michelle Wood; niece Sharon and Dennis Hirning of Independence, MO; nephew David and Jennifer Wood also of Independence, MO; cousins Tim and Barbara Lange of Dallas, TX; Georgiana and Leland Gunn; Lange and Richard Cheek all of Little Rock, AR.

Henry enjoyed spending time with friends, reading suspense novels, and watching old time movies.  Participated in numerous Muscular Dystrophy Telethon Fundraisers.
