Herbert Melvin Smith Jr., 83, of Sugar Creek passed away June 30, 2020 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday July 7th, 2020 at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, Mo. Visitation will be held 10- 11 AM, Tuesday July 7th, 2020 at Heartland. Mr. Smith was born May 27th, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri. Herbert was the first-born son to Louise (Nauss) and Herbert Melvin Smith Sr. He grew up in the Kansas City area graduating from Parkville High School. Immediately following he joined the Air Force. He received a degree in business. He was employed at many transportation freights lines. Retiring for Yellow Freight after 14 years. Even into his 80’s he was still riding his bicycle throughout the city and mowing his own yard. He always made time for family and friends. His grandchildren were the joy of his life!
He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert Sr. and Louise (Nauss) Smith, a brother Charles Smith, nieces Angela and Sabrina, and many aunts and uncles.
He is survived by Sons Daniel (Lindsay) Fort Myers, Florida and Jonathan (Ashley) Independence. Grandchildren: Mackenzie, Abby, Brayden, Alexandra, Nathan and Baby. Sister Goldie Stroud of Parkville and Esther (Carter Jones) of Omaha, Nebraska, nephews Brian and Michael Stroud, Coulter and Wyndham Jones, cousins, nieces and nephews and friends. He stayed good friends with his former wife.
