Ilene May (Godfrey) Van Meter

Ilene May (Godfrey) Van Meter passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016. Ilene was born in Fresno, California on July 19, 1947. Her parents were Loren S. Godfrey, Opal E. Lesperance, and her step-mother Myrtle Godfrey, who preceded her in death. She married Victor Ray Van Meter on July 2, 1978. They were married 38 years. Ilene is survived by her husband Victor, son Matthew R. Van Meter and daughter Kristen Ilene Van Meter. Ilene was also survived by her brother Russell L. Godfrey (Kathy) of Independence.

Ilene was a member of a Good Shepard Community of Christ Church. She loved to cook, sew, play the organ and piano, and shop. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Ilene was a member of the Missouri Department of Conservation and served as a hunting instructor for 11 years. She worked at AT&T, Western Electric, and the Internal Revenue Service. Ilene was successful in donating her organs and would encourage others to do the same.

Also surviving is aunt Charlene Brown of Higginsville, MO, cousin Gwen Augustine of Spokane, WA, nephew James L. Godfrey (Holly) great nephews Pyor and Will, and great niece Maryn of Lee’s Summit, MO. nephew William R. Godfrey of Blue Springs, MO, and nephew John A. Godfrey (Veronica) of San Diego, CA.

Services will be Sunday, September 18th at Good Shepard Community of Christ Church, 4341 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, Missouri 64133. The visitation will be at 2pm and the service beings at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Good Shepard Community of Christ Church.
