Iva Jean Bankson

Iva Jean (Ivy to her friends) was born on December 20, 1949 to Russell and Iva Carter in Warrensburg, Missouri. She passed away peacefully at home on October 22, 2023. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.

Iva attended Reese Elementary School and graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1968. She started working in the finance industry. Little did she realize that banking would become her life-long career. On September 27, 1969, she was married to Daniel Eldridge. The joy of their lives, their daughter Hannah was born on September 27, 1979, their 10th Anniversary. Unfortunately, they divorced. Iva later met and married Gary Bankson in 1990. Gary passed away in 2016. A miraculous reunion occurred when Iva and Hannah went to Arizona to spend time sharing and fellowshipping with Daniel and his partner, John. The four of them share an abiding love which continues even after Daniel passed in 2019.

Iva was always so positive. She never had a cross word for anyone. She loved life and new adventures. Her favorite times were spent with her church family and friends. Iva knew that blood makes you related but her friends were family-by-choice.

Before the illness took over, she loved to go get her nails done in bright, exotic colors, check in with friends on Facebook and try out new restaurants. Being around people gave her great joy.  She also loved dogs and her furbaby is safely in the care of her daughter.

Iva is survived by her daughter, Hannah; son-in-law, Roger Christopher; sister Jo Kelley, (Jess); niece Jennie Howard (Matt); nephew Joey Wells (Colleen); several great-nieces and -nephews and many, many friends.

A private family celebration of life service is planned.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make any donations in her memory at KC Pet Project, 7077 Elmwood Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64132.

I won’t say goodbye, I will say see you later. Your my best girlfriend for many years. We had some really good times. And some sad times and distance apart but always best friends. I am going to miss you so much, so until I see you later. Behave yourself and I love you always.

You will be missed but you left many great memories for family and friends to relive when we get together. We shared a special bond with our daughters being born a week apart at the same hospital. Our daughters have brought us so much joy.

For Ivy, who was sure to treat me just like I was her own everytime I saw her, always asked me about my family & always left you feeling like distance inbetween one visit to the next felt just like yesterday. Thank you so much for making me feel like I was one of yours. You are very loved.
