Iva Jean Rutter

Born in Virginia, Iva Jean Rutter was a true original — a wandering flower child with a free spirit and a kind heart. Her life journey took her across the country and beyond. She married in California and later divorced in 1974.

Following her heart, Iva moved to Oahu, Hawaii, where she spent nearly 17 years surrounded by the beauty and serenity of the islands. Eventually, she returned to Tennessee to be closer to the majority of her family.

In 2017, Iva relocated to Missouri to live with her youngest daughter, Robin. She spent the last eight years there, surrounded by love and care, until she passed peacefully in her sleep on June 2, 2025, at 1:29 a.m.

Iva will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, independent soul, and the love she shared with those around her.

She is preceded in death by: father, Luther Rutter and mother, Sallie Kate; 5 brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include: sisters, Alice Elizabeth and Margaret Gay; daughters, Selena Diane and wife Paulette and Robin Ann and husband Alan Agar; grandchildren, Diana Jean, Kevin Kenneth Robert and wife Breanna Beth, Lucas Drake Keahi, and Morgan Fenris Wakeland; and three great-grandsons.

May she rest in Peace where the trade winds blow and the ocean tickles her toes.
