James Bryan Price, 74, of Raytown, MO passed away January 21, 2025 at home surrounded by loved ones.
Memorial services will be at 3pm on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO 64133. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 2pm.
Jim was born at St. Luke’s in Kansas City, Missouri to James Ray Price and Barbara Schreier Price. He then moved to Joplin, Missouri and attended school, graduating from Joplin Senior High School in 1968.
His career in writing began that summer at the Joplin Globe Newspaper and he continued there as a reporter for eight years, while he completed his Bachelor’s degree at Missouri Southern State University.
He married Marcia Klein in 1973 after being introduced to her by the Managing Editor of the Joplin Globe. They moved to St. Louis as Jim went to work for Monsanto writing for their Corporate Communications Department while Marica completed her degree in Nursing. Jim stayed at Monsanto while Marcia completed an internship in critical care at Barnes Jewish Hospital and gave birth to their daughter.
Jim and Marcia moved to Kansas City with their infant daughter as Jim continued his career in Corporate Communications writing for Hallmark Cards, including presentations for the sales staff and going on to write speeches for Don Hall. Their son was born here and Jim continued writing for Hallmark for 17 years. During this time, he embarked upon earning his Masters at University of Missouri-Kansas City.
He then started his own boutique Communications consulting business, as well as devoting more time to his favorite endeavors of being a husband and father.
Jim’s interests were widely varied and his breadth and depth of knowledge knew no bounds. He was well known for his remarkable intellect; one has to be a reader to be a writer!
He was Cardiovascular Consultant’s first heart-kidney transplant recipient in 2005. Because of his bravery, St. Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute has been able to perform more surgeries like this.
His friends and family will always remember his outstanding sense of humor and infectious laugh. It’s truly been an honor to walk beside this gentleman and scholar for 51 years of enduring compassion and love.
He was preceded in death by: mother, Barbara Price; daughter, Kristina Price; and father, James R. Price.
Survivors include: wife, Marcia K. Price; son, James K. Price; daughter-in-law, Jourdan Ashli Price; sister, Marsha A. Rudd; brother, Robert W. Price (wife, Michelle); sister, Sandra S. Flanagan (husband, Jim); and multiple nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Having the memories of the past 10+ years with the Price family has been the best addition to our family. Sharing the bond of our children’s marriage will last forever. Jim was the best second dad we could have wished for our daughter. Everyone loved Jim he was a book of knowledge and we loved hearing his stories and experiences of his life. Jim we will watch over Marcia and James as they are very dear to our hearts. Watch over us all and know that your legacy lives on.
Much love,

I have said goodbye to many relations and friends over my 77 years but no-ones parting has had such an impact upon me as Jims.
We met about 10 years ago on Facebook through our shared Scottish heritage and bonded instantly. Jim was always on hand with advice when I asked for it on medical problems and glitches in my corporate life. I can only hope that he gained a little from my lifes experiences.
Being on the other side of the world down under I cannot be there in person but my heart will be there with the family. Rest in peace my friend, no one can ever fill your shoes.
You are so missed by all. You touched so many lives. Thank you for the impact you made in mine. Til we meet again, love you now and always. Love,
LB

Jim’s ability to always bring a smile to the room will always be one of my favorite memories. Though I have to close the book of Jim future I refuse to let his memory pass
Heaven just gained a Great Guy ❤️
OMG Marcia my heart just broke when I saw this on Facebook so sorry.
Jim was a great man among men he lived hard and loved hard. The one thing that stands out to me is his undying devotion to his family and you. What a testimony to others of your great love for each other just wish more couples could take a lesson from your love affair!
Marcia you will be on our hearts and prayers.

I so love this picture of Jim! The world has lost a talented, funny and wonderful man. I grieve your loss with you.
I was heartbroken to learn of the passing of our dear classmate! Jim was known as “Big Jim” in the Joplin Class of 1968. He was a big guy with a big heart. We reconnected through Facebook years ago. He was such a supporter of me as an educator! I was always humbled by his comments. One time I was traveling in Italy with my husband. They experienced an earthquake. We had joined a cruise there and were off the grid for a few days. I found out later that he was concerned about us and had asked if anyone had heard from me. This is just one example of his caring, compassionate nature! Rest in Peace dear friend…until we meet again. Prayers for God’s grace and comfort in the difficult days ahead!❤️🙏🏻
Marcia I am so sorry for you and yours loss. My prayers and love is with you.
