James “Jim” Lewis Geary, 88, of Bonner Springs, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.
Jim was born June 2, 1935, in Fayette County, Pennsylvania to Dolly Edith Bowers and Frank Bracken Geary. Jim married Carol Olbrich on April 4, 1959. Jim and Carol have four sons. Jim moved his family to Lake of the Forest in 1975. Jim enjoyed traveling, theatre, arts, music, fishing and spending time with family.
Jim was very involved in church and community. He was recognized as a United Way Agency Volunteer of the Year. He was always ready to help whenever needed. He gave numerous hours in helping remodel the Vaughn-Trent Thrift store when it moved to its present location. He has been chairman of the First Christian Church’s Oktoberfest, a huge garage sale and auction which has raised funds for Vaught-Trent to use for the children of the community. He has also served as board chairman, deacon and elder of the First Christian Church of Bonner Springs.
Jim’s community involvement spans a wide variety of activities. He was a volunteer EMS/EMT on the Bonner Ambulance Squad for 18 years and a Red Cross CPR Instructor. He worked as a building assistant with Habitat for Humanity, served a term on the UDS 204 school board, was a baseball coach and manager, and went on two mission trips to Venezuela.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bobby and Ron. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carol; sons Mark (Vonda), Kevin (Ipo), Craig (Rebecca) and Scott (Valerie); 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be Saturday, November 18, at the First Christian Church of Bonner Springs, 148 N. Nettleton Ave, Bonner Springs, KS 66012.
Visitation 1:00 pm, memorial service 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church or the Vaughn-Trent Center.

I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. You and I have not spoken for a lot of years as we went to radiology school together! I have fond memories of you, you were always a nice guy and I see where that came from after reading your dad’s obituary. I actually was on this site to look at my Mother-in-law’s obituary and saw your dad’s. Crazy huh? I too, just very recently lost my dad and mother-in- law in the same week, and I’m missing them and wishing they were still here with us. I am sending prayers and strength to you and your family at this time and in the rough times ahead. Deepest condolences my old x-ray buddy!
