Jim Skiles, 92, of Lee’s Summit, Mo passed away Sept. 24, 2012 at John Knox Hospice Village House. Jim was born Dec. 19, 1919 in Leavenworth, KS. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Leslie Skiles. Jim and Margaret are survived by 2 children (twins), Daughter Leslie Ann Cochran of Independence, MO and Larry (married to Gail) of Sierra Madre, CA, 3 grandchildren; Paul Cochran of Raytown, MO, Kristin (Mike) Stuckey of Blue Springs, MO and Christopher (Tiffany) Skiles of Golden, CO, and 2 great-grandchildren; Parker Skiles and Bayley Stuckey. Jim was also preceded in death by his 2nd wife, Rosemary Skiles, of John Knox, Lee’s Summit, MO.
Jim was Managing Partner of Harding-Skiles Office Equipment, owner of Skiles Typewriter Co., manager of Midwestern Office Equipment, purchasing agent for Rocketdyne, a division of North American Rockwell Corporation, senior buyer for Teledyne Continental Aviation and office manager for Cochran, Oswald & Roam Law Offices in Blue Springs, MO until his retirement.
He loved golf, fishing, boating and woodworking. While growing up some of his memories were seeing Tom Mix, Charles Lindberg, Jack Dempsey, Will Rogers, Mickey Mantle, and meeting Al Capone. He also enjoyed dancing with his wife Margaret to the bands of Benny Goodman, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Gene Kruppa, Russ Morgan and Wayne King at Memorial Hall in Joplin, MO.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held 11 AM, Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at The John Knox Chapel 520 NW Murray Road, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Village Hospice, 400 NW Murray Road, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081.
