James LeRoy Syverson

James “Jimmy” LeRoy Syverson was born February 12, 1939, the fifth child of Thor and Karen (Johnson) Syverson in Williston, North Dakota.  A visitation will be held 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, Missouri.  Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Jim grew up in Epping, North Dakota, graduating in 1957.  He was a teacher before he began a career in the railroad.  Jim worked for Union Pacific and retired from Southern Pacific as Regional Sales Manager.

On August 21, 1972 he married Imogene Cannon of The Atriums, Overland Park, Kansas.  Jim served in the Army during the Korean War.  He was a very involved member of The Elks Lodge #26, Kansas City, Missouri and was elected The Exalted Ruler, 1999-2000 and District Deputy, 2007 – 2008.

Jim was preceded in death by; parents, Thor & Karen Syverson; brothers, Baby Duane Syverson, Duane Syverson, Gary Syverson, Gayle Syverson; sisters, JoAnne Stevens and Kathleen Ritter. Survivors include; wife of 46 years, Imogene (Griffith) Syverson; son & daughter in law: Keith & Diana Cannon; grandsons, Brian & Toby Cannon; great grandchildren, Aidan, Beaty, Reese, Delaney, Declan; brothers, Dale Syverson, Kenneth Syverson, Derald Syverson; sister, Dianne Earhart; 103 year old Aunt Olga Sundet and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
