James Marvin Everist

James Marvin Everist, 82, of Olathe, KS passed away January 16, 2023 at Azria Health of Olathe from natural causes. Graveside services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Zion Cemetery, Tecumseh.

Marvin was born on November 26, 1940 in Topeka, Kansas to Wilna Kathleen Herschell and James Matthew Everist. He grew up in Rural Shawnee County, Kansas, attending public schools in Tecumseh Township. He was a graduate of Highland Park High School and attended Washburn University. While in high school, he lettered in baseball and was active in the local 4-H Club. He joined his father in dairy farming for several years, before changing careers and becoming involved in automobile sales. For many years he was the top salesman for his employer, winning many quarterly sales awards. He eventually broke away to start his own used-car dealership. He was also the owner and manager of a few rental properties.

His extracurricular activities included being a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He also was on the Fire Board with Tecumseh Township, and served as Republican Precinct Committeeman. In his younger years, he loved boating and waterskiing. He also loved to play pool (billiards). He was always ready to make you laugh, and had numerous jokes memorized and ready to share.

Prior to moving to Texas in 1999, he was semi-retired. He and his wife Carol Ann Cooper looked forward to enjoying the warmer winters. During his stay in Texas, they were divorced after 40 years of marriage. He eventually returned to Kansas, and lived back in Topeka for a number of years. He started to need help with daily duties, and was diagnosed with dementia. He lived in an assisted living facility, and then eventually, a nursing home in the Kansas City area.

He was preceded in death by: Father, James Matthew Everist and mother, Wilna Kathleen Everist.

Survivors include: sister, Marilyn Bledsoe; children: Ann Murphy, Aimee Schroeter, Alicia Klausner, Jason Everist; grandchildren: Josh Murphy, Courtney Murphy, Cole Schroeter, Rylan Schroeter, Jacob Schroeter, Rosalyn Klausner, Victoria Klausner, and Jaxson Everist; and great-grandchild, Brayden Murphy.
