Janet A. McKenny

Janet A. McKenny, 73, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 26, 2023. Janet was born August 25, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri to Hayden and Lena Frances Pope. She was a 1967 graduate of Paseo High School. After high school, she attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1970. She spent her career as a Labor and Delivery and surgical nurse. After her clinical nursing career, she continued to use her nursing skills while working in the fields of workers compensation and insurance.

On October 22, 1971 she married Frank McKenny in Kansas City, Missouri. They were married for 36 years before his passing in 2008. Janet was an active member of the Commemorative Air Force, Heart of America Wing, where she, along with her sister Beth, ran their kitchen services and most recently served as the Education Officer. She enjoyed her time at the wing, helping teach both children and adults.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank and brothers Richard “Dick” Pope and Robert “Bob” Pope. She is survived by her son, Brian McKenny of Montgomery, Alabama, daughter Susan Scharsch and her wife Lisa Tibbetts of Olathe, Kansas, sister and brother-in-law Beth and Jack McCale of Overland Park, Kansas, sisters-in-law, Teri Pope of Fairway, Kansas, Debra Pope of Rogers, Arkansas and June Marlene McKenny of Overland Park, Kansas, grandchildren Andrew Scharsch, James McKenny, Samantha Scharsch, Katherine McKenny, Finn McKenny and Graci Tibbetts Scharsch along with a host of bonus grandchildren who she adored and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Commemorative Air Force, Heart of America Wing, 6 Aero Plaza, New Century, Kansas 66031. To honor her love of all things Disney and Florida, please wear bright colored, comfortable clothes. A private family burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Ford City, Missouri.
