Jerome “Jerry” Lyle Harrington

Jerry Harrington passed away on May 29, 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri from cancer.

Visitation will be held at Mt. Moriah Newcomer & Freeman Memorial Home, 10507 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, Missouri 64131, on Wednesday, June 11 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a graveside service with fire department honors at 1:30 PM.

Jerry was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on July 7, 1961. In the summer of ‘65 his family relocated to Kansas CIty, where he eventually married his lovely wife, Kathy McNeal, shortly before his retirement.

Our beloved Jerry retired from the Kansas City Fire Department after 28 years of service from 1986 to 2014. As a dispatcher, he became Union President and then Chief Dispatcher. He held the title of Battalion Chief with Local 3808. Jerry also served as a member of the Elks Lodge #26 for 11 years.

First and foremost though, was Jerry’s dedication to family. He took great pride in his family. He was also proud to have come from a large family and to have a twin sister, Jan. He was an avid Chiefs fan and a “forever loyal” KC Royals fan! His greatest joy came from backyard BBQ’s surrounded by family and friends!

Jerry was preceded in death by both parents, Cecil and Bel Harrington, along with 2 siblings, Woody and Lynn. He leaves behind his wife Kathy McNeal, 3 children, Tiffany, Robbie and Jerry Jr., 7 grandchildren, Alexis, Anastasia, Ariel, Mason, Colton, Jackson, and Makayla, as well as 3 great grandchildren, Duane Jr., Haeva, and Alyiah. He also leaves behind 6 siblings, Pat (husband Don), Joan (husband Dave), Cec (wife Sharon), Bob (wife Janet), his twin sister Jan (husband Barry), and Joe, as well as Kathy’s son William (wife Neeren), and daughter Melissa (husband Bobby), along with a multitude of nieces, nephews and many friends. Jerry made friends wherever he went. He truly “enjoyed” life with family and friends and will sincerely be missed and forever loved by all!
