Jim Roy Hooper

On January 9, 1933, in the quiet town of Four Paths, Jamaica, Merdina Wallace and Ronald Hooper welcomed a baby boy into the world—Jim Roy Hooper. From humble beginnings, Jim’s journey would span countries and decades, touching hearts across generations.

Jim spent his early years in Four Paths before moving to Kingston, Jamaica, where he built a life through hard work and quiet resilience. He was the beloved brother of Enid Osborne, Iris Young, Jack Hooper, and Herman Hooper, all of whom preceded him in death.

In 1989, Jim embraced a new chapter in America with his wife, Norma Hooper, who passed away in 1998. The following year, destiny led him to reconnect with his life mate and faithful companion of 26 years, Patsy A. Douglas, in Florida. Together, they shared a life marked by love, laughter, travel, and endless games of bingo—Jim’s favorite pastime. Whether on bus trips or at the casino, Jim found joy in the journey.

A dedicated school bus driver by trade and a steady hand by nature, Jim left a legacy of service and reliability. Two years ago, he and Patsy relocated to Kansas, where he spent his final days surrounded by love and comfort.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Suzette James of Florida; sons, Gary, Mickel, and Christopher Hooper of Jamaica; and a cherished host of grandchildren. He is fondly remembered by extended family members Yolanda Johnson (TX), Joanne (Reginald) Brown (NC), Cynthia Johnson (NY); Lattrice (Michael) Goldsby and Michele (David) Cromwell (KS), dear friends Robert Stephenson and Vibert Gabrick (FL) and Marilyn(Joe) deOliveria (FL).

Though he has departed this life, Jim’s legacy of love, strength, and steadfast devotion lives on in all who knew and loved him.

May he rest in eternal peace.

Jim was so generous and had a great sense of humor. He always made us smile. He talked to our dog like she was a human. It was our privilege to know Jim. Until we meet again, we will keep those good memories in our hearts. RIP Jim.
