John Melvin

John "Jack" Melvin, died October 20, 2008, after a short illness. Born November 22, 1935 in Yonkers, NY, Jack spent his childhood in New York. At the age of seventeen, Jack joined the Marines and went on to serve in the Korean War. After his service, he attended Boston College where he played football and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Following college Jack played as a guard for the New York Giants. Before becoming maintenance manager for American Development he was a field engineer for Otis Elevators. While at American Development, Jack was transferred to the Kansas City area. Surviving are his wife, Marnell Mathies, his daughter, Kathleen Black and husband Jon, his son Michael Melvin and wife Nancy, his daughter Maureen Witt and husband Larry, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, step-son Kirk Fey, and step-son Caleb Fey and wife Laura. He was predeceased by his son Jack. A private, graveside service will be held at a later date at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities Hospice. The family requests no flowers.
