John Lee Roy “Bill” Lewis, 99, of Raytown, MO, passed away peacefully January 23rd, 2023 at Hidden Lake Care Center. Bill, as he was known to many, was the son of Roy and Fanny Lewis. His wife, Ruby, and daughter, Linda Bessinger, preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Knox (Bill) and sons, Ron Lewis (Chris) and Jerry Lewis (Diana) and son-in law Randy Bessinger. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II. He attended Indiana University and Kansas City University. He served as a Raytown city alderman from 1968-1970. He was an accountant and retired from Midwest Mechanical Contractors in 1988. He was an avid Chief’s fan, enjoyed traveling and had a great love of the outdoors.
Services will be held Friday, January 27th, at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, MO. A visitation will be held at 9:00 prior to the funeral service at 10:00. Burial at Brooking Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ascend Hospice, 783 NE Anderson Lane, Lee’s Summit, MO 64064.
