John Philip Furst

John Philip Furst passed away at home on May 25, 2026. John was born in Allentown, PA to Alfred W and Mauricette (DeHon) Furst on May 21, 1947.

Before moving to Independence, MO in 2009 he lived in many places, mostly in Iowa. He had many jobs throughout the years with the military being the most important to him. He joined the Army in 1964 (Vietnam Era) and again in 1980. After retiring from the military in 1986 he was the Chief of Police in Buffalo Center, IA. He also worked for the Post Office and was a school bus driver.

He enjoyed traveling, especially to France to visit his family there. John collected many, many things including knives and coins. John and Debbie (Wade) were married in Branson on Veteran’s Day in 2011.

He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivor’s include his wife, Debbie, son Michael (Jennifer) Andersen, stepdaughter Brandy Kunkle (Phill King), Many grandchildren including, Tyler Frerichs (Leanne), Jenna Andersen, Dayton Andersen, Dakota Andersen, Jessica Andersen, Irys King and Bailey King. Several great grandchildren, including Aubrey, Nova and Meredith Frerichs. His brothers, Patrick (Rose), Brad and Christopher. His sisters, Valerie (Terry) Curry and Laurel Johnson. Sisters-in-laws, Deanna (Jason) Flack, DeeDee Wade (Terry Lally) and brother-in-law, Doug (Donna) Wade. Many friends, nieces and nephews, including Anthony (Jessi) Wade and Autumn Gregg. John had a special place in his heart for Autumn who was with him in his final weeks of life.

Services will be held at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville, MO
