Joseph B. Staihr

Joseph B. Staihr passed away January 10, 2016, at his home in Independence, Mo.  J.B. was born February 10, 1932, and was the youngest child of Joseph B. Staihr Sr.  and Claire M. (Gillen) Staihr.   J.B. was was a life-long resident of the Independence area, graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1949 then enlisting in the Armed Forces and serving on the USS Valley Forge during the Korean War.   After J.B.s service to the military, he went to work in the fluid power industry.  During the early ’70’s, with his wife and best friend Betty S. Staihr at his side, together they took a leap and started their own  hydraulic and pneumatic company, S & R Industries.  Over  the next 40 years, J.B. and Betty grew their family business, acquiring Akin Engineering which eventually became P.H.A.S.E. Inc.    J.B. and  his wife of 49 years, Betty, were constant companions in work, church, life and family until her passing July 14, 2010.  He is preceded in death by his father and mother, three siblings, Roberta (Staihr) Taylor, Richard Staihr and Donald Staihr, Step-Son Steve Riddle.  J.B. is survived by his son Mike Staihr wife Kathy, daughters Jana (Staihr) Dobson, husband Mike, Susan (Staihr) Hamilton and Lisa (Staihr) Paddock husband Jeff Reeder, Step-Son Rick Riddle, wife Shelley, 14 grandchildren, Michael, Katie, Connor, Nathan, Rachel, Tiffany, Bradley, Blake, Stacy, Justin, Richie, Luke, Taylor and Melania, 4 great-grandchildren.  A small family gathering will celebrate his life and memories.  He will be interned next to his wife at Trinity Episcopal Church Columbarium

    I am grateful for the life of Mr. Staihr. Thanks to his service and to the service of others in our armed forces, my family and I have been able to lead our lives in freedom and peace.
