Joseph Byrne, Jr.

Joseph V. Byrne, Jr., 65, of Raytown, MO passed away September 20, 2009. A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 23, 2009 from 6-8 PM at Missouri Funeral Care, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO. Funeral service will be Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with burial to follow at Floral Hills Cemetery. Lil Joe was born April 22, 1944 to Joseph V. Byrne, Sr. and Josephine M. Byrne. He proudly served our country for 25 years with the Marines and Army; serving in the Vietnam War with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, as Jump Master Instructor at Ft. Benning, Green Beret Special Forces at Fort Bragg, and as a Special Forces instructor at The University of Georgia. Lil Joe was preceded in death by his father Joseph V. Byrne, Sr. and his younger brother John W. Byrne, Sr. He is survived by his loving companion Linda S. Griffin; his mother Josephine M. Byrne; his three children Dr. Jennifer E. Byrne, Joseph V. Byrne, III, and Michael P. Byrne; his sister-in-law Jayne . Dougan; his two nephews John W. Byrne, Jr. and Jared W. Byrne; niece Megan E. Byrne; along with his beloved pet Shnoodle, Schotzi; and many friends. Lil Joe was very caring and compassionate. He was passionate about golf, football, and baseball. He had a wonderful sense of humor and lived his life protecting the Constitution and was fiercely proud to be an American. He will always be in the hearts of everyone who knew him. Lil Joe was the “Quintessential Man” Semper Fidelis-Always Faithful. The family requests that no flowers be sent, but would like to especially thank all the special efforts from the VA Hospital, its doctors and nurses, and special thanks to Ruth Corbett, and the care of Hospice.
