Joy Irene McGuire-Zirpolo

Joy Irene McGuire-Zirpolo, 78, passed away Monday February 6, 2012.  Visitation will be held on Thursday February 9, 2012 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit RD, Independence, MO from 5:00-8:00 pm with a Rosary at 6:30 pm.

She was born Edith Irene McGuire on September 27, 1933, but her family and friends called her Joy Irene.

As a young girl Joy had a passion for music and fine arts.  She was a dancer and performed at Starlight when it opened and in Las Vegas with the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. She also served in the US Navy during the Korean War.  She loved to travel and visited many cities and countries.  She worked at J.C. Nichols Co. and the Kansas City Chiefs before opening her own pet store and bird breeding business, which she enjoyed for 15 years.  She loved spending time with her family and her pets, reading, writing short stories, playing piano, ice skating, and fishing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brother-in-laws, and a niece.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Sam and Nancy Zirpolo; her grandchildren, Jake and Anna; her sisters, Mary Ann Bisacca, Claudia Kern, and Jean Stevenson and her husband Bob; seven nieces and nephews; 20 great nieces and nephews; and 11 great-great nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City or St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Independence, MO.
