Juliana Louise Hollowell

Juliana Louise Hollowell, 65, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away on March 19, 2026, at The University of Kansas Health System Olathe Campus from acute hypoxic respiratory failure, volume overload, and end-stage renal failure.

Juliana was born on January 31, 1961, in Kansas City, Missouri. She began playing the piano at the age of six, and her knowledge of music theory, along with her ability at the piano, was truly masterful. In her youth, she profoundly expressed herself through original song compositions.

She attended Berklee College of Music while her then-husband began his career in Boston. During the 1990s, she wrote and self-published a poetry book titled Walk-In Closet. After her divorce, she dedicated her music to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

During the 2000s, Juliana taught piano to children from her home in Emporia, Kansas. During this time, she also played piano for nursing home residents at Flint Hills Care and Rehab.

Forgiveness and charity were among her greatest qualities. She believed that overcoming pain and bitterness caused by others was pivotal in life, and forgiveness was at the heart of that triumph. Giving to charities brought her a deep sense of joy and personal fulfillment.

In her later years, Juliana found joy in painting. She loved dedicating her time to creating abstract works, scenic sunrise backgrounds, and angelic images on canvas.

The constant throughout her life was her love for Jesus, her commitment to prayer, and her desire to deepen her understanding of the Bible. She wanted everyone to know that Jesus loves them no matter what, and this was reflected in how she treated people, how she wrote and performed music, and how naturally she shared how Jesus had helped her in conversation.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joshua Williams Bays Jr., and her mother, Marie Jaqueline Bono.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Gurney Hollowell IV; her brother, William Peter Bays, and sister-in-law, Vicki Bays; her brother, Tom Bays, and sister-in-law, Karen Bays; her former husband, Joseph Gurney Hollowell III; and her former sister-in-law, Helen Edith Hollowell.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Juliana’s generous spirit by donating to a charity that is meaningful to you.
