June Murphy

June Clarice Murphy passed away peacefully at home on November 7, 2009, with family by her side. Her beloved cousin- caregiver, Cheryl, her brother and sister-in- law, Virgil and Eileen Leibold and her doxies, Murphy and Danke Schon. June was born in Great Falls, Mont., on Sept. 5, 1918, to Robert and Bethy Leibold. As a young girl, she and her family moved to Long Beach, Calif. June married Russell Shaver, USN, in May 1938 until his death in 1944. She then married Neal Murphy on Aug. 15, 1944, in San Diego, Calif. She worked 23 years in Civil Service as she traveled with her husband during his service in the Navy. June met Neal at the Hippodrome Skating Rink in Long Beach, playing the mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ. After they married, they enjoyed many years of entertaining at the Officers Clubs where Neal was stationed. They were married 38 years until his death in 1982. June and her cousin, Cheryl, and their four dogs moved to Blue Springs and made their home there for 27 years. June was also preceded in death by her parents and dear stepmother, Lillian Leibold and cousin, Thelma Morgan. No service. Cremation by Heartland Cremation & Burial Society. In June’s memory and her love of animals, donations can be made to any animal care facility or organization of your choice. A special thank you to all her caregivers through the years, Blue Springs Dialysis Center, St. Mary’s Medical Center and Manor and Odyssey Hospice. To all our dear friends we’ve made along this journey, thank you for loving her too.
