K. Brooks Kuhn Simpson, 56, of Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully at Overland Park Regional Hospital on November 23, in the loving presence of her devoted husband John, adoring daughter, Erin and the loving arms of her mother, Carolyn Clevenger Kuhn. Mrs. Simpson was born Kerryn Brooks Kuhn, August 13, 1951 in Great Bend, KS. Brooks was a 1969 graduate of Hutchinson High School. She married John Simpson on August 8, 1971.
Mrs. Simpson was a speech and a language pathologist, graduating from Fort Hays State and Emporia State Universities. She worked in public schools in Hutchinson and Kansas City KS, for 25 years until her retirement in 2003. Brooks was a life-long member of Disciples of Christ Church and most recently a member of Saint Andrew Christian Church in Olathe, KS. She was an advocate; promoting social justice issues most of her adult life.
She is survived by her husband John of the home, 12253 W. 104 Street, Overland Park, and daughter Erin of Kansas City MO, parents John and Carolyn Kuhn of Emporia, KS, and three brothers and their families: Herb Kuhn of Washington, D.C., Bruce Kuhn of Lenexa KS, and Andy Kuhn of Emporia, KS.
For many years Brooks has fought against the gradual deterioration of multiple sclerosis. With bravery, a positive attitude, and a ready smile, she persevered. She was gracious, kind and an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 26, at 7:00 PM at Saint Andrew Christian Church, 13890 W. 127 St., Olathe, KS. Family members will gather to receive visitors at 6:00 PM, at the church, prior to the service. The family suggests donation to National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
