Kaleia LaShay Hayes

Kaleia LaShay Hayes was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 3, 1979 to Clair Hayes and William Vernon Charles. Kela, as she was affectionately known, graduated from Westport High School. Kaleia worked at Truman Medical Center, where her work ethic and love for helping people resonated with the many staff and coworkers she spent time with.
Kaleia was a devoted mother to Kylan and Landyn and a proud aunt to her nephews. She enjoyed spending time with her family and celebrating the triumphs of those she loved. A fervent football fan, you could always catch her watching college games on Saturday and Pro games on Sunday. Kaleia was also a “foodie.” One of her favorite things to do was invite everyone to the house for a shrimp boil. Great meals and fun times with family and friends is what brought her joy.

Kaleia, a true advocate for early detection, shared her story with the world through her Cancer Chronicles. Through self examination, what she feared became her reality. Kaleia took on the battle with sheer grace and determination. She never surrendered in her fight. She held strong to her faith in God and continued to give Him the glory. Her strength and resilience remain an example to us all. She departed this life Wednesday, August 23, 2017 but her spirit is with all of us always.

She was preceded in death by: her father, William Charles; paternal grandparents, James Sr & Carmilla Charles; maternal grandparents, James & Joella Hayes; paternal grandparents, Grover & Eugenia Ransom; aunts, Sheltry Lamar, Essie Hayes, Bobbie Hayes, Jamesella Hayes; uncles, Otha Bush, James Wesley Hayes Jr, Leon Hayes and Charles Goodseal.

She leaves to cherish in her memory: mother, Clair Hayes Otis (Marvin); father, Stan Ransom; sister, Kyeisa Ransom; son, Kylan Johnson; daughter, Landyn Rand and her nephews, Gregory Lyles & Kyron Tharp. She also leaves her special longtime friends; Brittny Ferguson, Dru Gray, Leotis Carson & Kenneth Bland and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whom she loved very much.

Kaleia! You’ve touched so many hearts and left so many beautiful memories with so many people, and that alone is AMAZING! I’m so glad I got to meet you and put a face with all the childhood stories Kyeisa showered me with (which were hilarious)! Heaven truly gained a gorgeous angel!
