Karen A. Jakobe, 61, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away on July 30, 2026 surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Karen dedicated approximately 40 years of her life to nursing. Caring for others was not simply a career for Karen—it was a calling and an important part of who she was. Throughout her years as a nurse, she touched many lives with her knowledge, compassion, honesty and strong spirit.
Karen was a devoted mother to her three children, Jeffrey (Priya) Daniel, Nathan (Ashley) Daniel and Jaime (Michael) Whitsitt and a proud grandmother to James, Alisha , Atlas, Landon and Lillyana. She was also the wife of Tom McElmurry, who shared in the later chapters of her life.
Karen was one of six siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Marie Van Dorin; her sisters, Linda and Sandra; and her former husband, Steve Jakobe.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, husband Tom McElmurry, siblings, and many family members and friends who loved her and will miss her dearly.
Karen lived life with a strong personality, a generous heart, and a mind of her own. She was never afraid to speak her truth, stand up for what she believed in, or make sure people knew exactly where she stood. She loved deeply, cared fiercely, and was loyal to the people who mattered most to her. She had a way of making an impression—and she certainly wasn’t the kind of person anyone was likely to forget.
Karen spent her final days bonding with her two sisters Glenda and Rita forming a more sisterly bond adding to her bucket list.
Karen’s life and faith can perhaps be best remembered in these words:
To Karen’s three beautiful children,
My heart breaks for each of you during this difficult time. Your mom was more than my best friend—she was a remarkable woman whose love, kindness, and strength touched so many lives. Of all the roles she held, being your mother was the one she cherished most. She spoke of you with endless love and pride.
May you find comfort in the memories you shared, the love she gave so freely, and the countless lives she touched. Please know that you are surrounded by people who care deeply for you and are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
Karen’s love will always live on through each of you. May she rest in eternal peace, and may God give you strength and comfort in the days ahead.
