Kathleen Jean Scanlon, “Kate”, previously of Springfield, MO, entered eternal life on February 16, 2018 in Columbia, MO. She was 86 years young. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 1:00 PM. It will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Springfield, MO. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Bolivar, MO.
Kate was born May 1, 1931 in Wichita, KS, to Charles and Irene Walter. She attended North Wichita High School and fell in love with Robert Scanlon. Kate always enjoyed a good laugh and story, so it was appropriate that she and Bob married on April Fools’ Day, 1949. They were married for 66 years until Bob’s death in 2015.
Kate was always ready for a good adventure and enjoyed the lakes, camping, golfing, bridge, antiquing, the “Lunch Bunch” and just having fun! She loved playing the piano, with “The Maple Leaf Rag” being one of her favorite pieces. She had several lifelong friends. After she moved to Columbia, her new friends at Gentry Estates kept her laughing.
Bob & Kate were blessed with five children: R.C. (Susan), Sally Russell (Brett), Clancy, Jim, and Kevin (Prudence). They enjoyed all of their 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, son Jim, and brother Charlie. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to any Women’s Shelter of your choice.
She was my best friend. I loved her and miss her. My deepest sympathy to your family.
Katie was such a special and fun person. She always had a smile, a joke and a positive attitude. She will be missed. I am now living in Ft. Worth, Tx. But my husband, Jim, and I knew Kate and Bob for many years. Jim is gone too. My very sincere sympathy to all Kate’s family,
Nancy Claxton
Katie was such a special person. She always had a smile, a joke and a positive attitude. I loved being around her. We hadn’t been in touch for a while since my health hadn’t been good and I moved to Ft. Worth, Tx. to be near daughters. I really enjoyed knowing Katie and being with her occasionally. She was a very positive and extremely nice person.
My sincere sympathy to all her family. Nancy Claxton
