Kenneth Hinz, 60, passed away May 14, 2008. Born in Atchison on March 20, 1948, Kenneth lived in the Kickapoo Township area of Leavenworth County. He grew up in Lancaster on the family dairy farm, attended Atchison County Community High School and graduated in 1967. Kenneth was preceded in death by his father, Albert K. Hinz, and brother, Roy A. Koehler. Kenneth is survived by his mother, Ruby H. Hinz (Hood); his wife, Jo Ellen; and five children, Brian and Brett Porter, from a previous marriage, and Kenneth Joseph Hinz, Richard Harrison Hinz, and Kellie Jo Hinz. Kenneth was a Sgt in the 26th Marines and received two purple hearts for his service in Vietnam. He is listed as a warrior in the battle of Khe Sanh at hill 881S. A memorial service will be at 12 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at Chapel of the Veterans, on the Dwight D. Eisenhower V.A. Medical Center Campus. Kenneth will be receiving full military honors following the service at the National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 12003 Lansing, KS.
