Kenneth “Kenny” Ray Grant

Kenneth “Kenny” Ray Grant, 63, long term Bourbon County Kansas and Vernon County Missouri resident, passed away on April 18, 2013 following sudden illness.  He was born April 21st 1949, in Fort Scott, Kansas to Charles “Junior” and Darlene Grant of Redfield, Kansas.  He graduated from Union Town High School in 1967.  He enlisted to the United States Army in 1969 to basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.  He later served his country in Vietnam and served three tours of duty.

Kenny worked at John Deere, Beachner Construction, farming, and had his own business K & L Transport and was a life time truck driver.

He is survived by two sons, Adam Grant and partner, Charity Covell, of Nevada, MO, and Dustin Leer of Springfield, MO, and two daughters, Kayla Grant and partner, Sam Compton, of Richards, MO, and Crystal Godoy, of Platte City, MO.  He married Linda Higgs in 1976 and help raised Sheila Hudson, Christina Strickland, Jamie Riley, and Stephanie Harrison.  He married Lana Kiger in 1989.  He has 3 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.  He is survived by his mother, Darlene Grant, of Chanute, KS, and two sisters, Charlene Riley and spouse, Lonnie Riley, of Chanute, KS, and Mary Viel and spouse, Brian Viel of Hutchinson, KS, and one brother, Phillip Grant and spouse, Connie Grant of Belle Plaine, KS and numerous nephews, 1 niece, and several cousins.  He is preceded in death by his father, Charles “Junior” Grant and one brother, Gary Dale Grant.

Graveside services will be held at Ft. Scott National Cemetery and date and time to be announced. (arr. Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, 816-313-1677)

    I met Kenny at the Nevada Truck Stop afew years back. He always had some thing nice to say to us. I will miss him. My prayers go out to his family. God be with.

I’m going to do my best to make you proud every day of my life. Thank you for all of the valuable lessons and crazy stories.
