Larry Gene Thompson, 78, of Independence, Missouri passed away February 14, 2019 at home, from a terminal illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society, Raytown, Missouri. Visitation will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, February 21, 2019 also at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society. A graveside service and military honors will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 2:30PM, February 21, 2019. Mr. Thompson was born March 26, 1940 in Liberal, Kansas.
Larry was an Army vet in the 58th engineer company stationed in Germany as a radio operator. He also worked at Devry as a recruiter. Larry was a member of the VFW and American Legion Post 327 in Shawnee, Kansas. His hobbies included restoring El Caminos and he loved attending car shows. He also enjoyed collecting lighthouses.
He was preceded in death by his son Rob Thompson, granddaughter Madison Januszewski, mother Nadine Thompson and father Everett Thompson.
Survivors include wife of 13 years, daughters Angela Thomas and Tracy Alexander and 8 grandchildren.
