Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute
Lavonna “Vonnie” Irene Niederwimmer, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 10, 2025. Born on February 26, 1938, to Herbert and Beatrice Rindt, Vonnie grew up in Herington, Kansas, alongside her siblings Ralph, Judy, and Sharon.
She graduated from St. Luke’s Nursing School in 1959, the same year she married the love of her life, Carl Niederwimmer, on October 25. They shared over 63 wonderful years of marriage until Carl’s passing in 2022.
Vonnie began her career in healthcare as a charge nurse and later served as a hospital supervisor. She continued her nursing work in family practice and later transitioned to occupational health nurse at Owens Corning. During this time, she also became a licensed massage therapist—well known for her “magic hands” — and continued practicing massage therapy long after her retirement from nursing.
Vonnie and Carl started their family with the arrival of daughters Nancy and Lori, who brought great joy to their lives. Family meant everything to Vonnie, and she especially cherished time spent with her four grandchildren: Rowen, Aidan, Connor, and Carys. She was also famous for her homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, and comforting home-cooked meals. Vonnie also had a strong love for traveling throughout her life with her family, grandchildren and friends.
A woman of deep faith and boundless compassion, Vonnie was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church. She volunteered with hospice, participated in nursing mission trips, and supported a wide range of organizations and community efforts. She was always on the move —giving, serving, and helping wherever she could.
Vonnie was preceded in death by her husband Carl, daughter Nancy, and brother Ralph. She is survived by her daughter Lori (Jerry); son-in-law Scott (Nancy); grandchildren Rowen, Aidan, Connor, and Carys; sisters Judy and Sharon; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Visitation will be 10am, followed by a memorial service at 11am, Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Christ Lutheran Church, 6700 N.W. 72nd St, Platte Woods, Missouri 64151.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vonnie’s honor to Christ Lutheran Church or Hillcrest Platte County Thriftstore.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Becky Fishback of Visiting Angels, Brookdale Assisted Living and Memory Care, and Amedisys Hospice for their compassion, support, and care throughout Vonnie’s journey with Lewy Body dementia.
So sorry Lori, prayers for you and the rest of the family.
Sweet Vonnie. We will forever cherish the love and guidance Vonnie gave to Logann. I am so grateful for the short, but so very sweet, time I was able to spend with her. Her light will be so very missed.
All of our love ❤️

Vonnie,
Was always a busy lady when she came to us. She talked a lot about her family and her work history where she traveled.. She will be missed and forever in our hearts! Rip Vonnie.

So sorry to hear of Vonnie’s passing. She was a long time dear friend and fellow nurse from St.Luke’s. My prayers are with her family.
Vonnie was such a beautiful person, and our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Her love for her daughters and grandchildren was so evident, and she cherished every moment with them. And Scott, you truly earned your wings—helping her through some very difficult times.
We know it wasn’t easy, and we admire the strength and love you showed. Please know how much we love you all.
I’m sorry we could not make the services.

I’m so sorry to learn that Vonnie is gone. She had volunteered for Kansas City Hospice for many years, offering strength and comfort to patients and and family members. Vonnie made room on her calendar and in her heart for folks that were hurting, then left them relaxed and at ease. She was pure goodness! Sending condolences and prayers for peace to friends and family. Jeannie Carlson, Volunteer Coordinator
I’m saddened to hear of Vonnie’s passing as well, it was shocking to hear about my school friend from grade school into high school! We were very close in age, our farms were close enough for me to borrow my Dad’s tractor to drive to visit with Vonnie, Judy, Ralph, and the rest of a loving, hard working family! The last visit with Vonnie and Judy was their vacation in Colorado mtns. summer 1994, our daughter was 14 who only knew Germany and on-base activities, Delta Airlines gave us a reduction to fly USA anywhere for a month, (great way to introduce her to America) we made contacts with relatives and friends, and we visited! Vonnie and Judy welcomed us royal-ly, fed us, reminisced, wished us well our overnight drive to the airport! Fond memories of Vonnie and the Rindt family!
Sorry to learn of Lavonna’s recent death. I learned of her passing at the funeral of one of her distant relatives (by marriage) at Herington recently. We now live on the Harry Lawrenz farm not far from where the Rindt kids grew up. Lavonna’s younger siblings were all schoolmates in the 50s / 60s.
Sincere Condolences.
