Leon Claude Fritz, Jr.

Leon Claude Fritz, Jr., affectionately known as “Bub” was born to the union of Leon C. Fritz, Sr., and Ernestine Fritz on June 19, 1943. He attended public school in Kansas City, Missouri graduating from Central High School in 1961.

Leon married Gloria Dixon and to this union two children were born, Tony and Pam.

Leon joined the U.S. Postal Service on Dec 6, 1963. Leon was a devoted member of the National Association of Letter Carrier (NALC) Union, Branch 30 for 55 years. He was passionate about making a difference and ensuring employees were granted their rights and had fair representation. He served in many capacities for the NALC; local union rep, Branch Officer (financial secretary and trustee 1992-1997), state and national delegate for over 40 years, local MDA Ambassador and more. In 2013, he received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his years of committed service to protecting the rights and privileges of letter carriers within the 19 Postal Installations represented by NALC Branch 30. He received his lifetime membership gold card in 2014. While working for the Postal Service he met and later married Alta Cartwright.

Those who knew Leon, also know that he may have been small in stature but mighty. He may have had an abrupt personality, but if you knew him well and he liked you he was a very kind-hearted person.

Before his illness Leon was an avid bowler, developing many long-time friendships. He was an active member of the Central Blue Eagles, Class of 61. He loved to play bid whist, gin rummy, dominoes, ping-pong and horseshoes. He had a very competitive spirit.

He was proceeded in death by: parents, brother Orville Jackson, Jr.; sisters, Willa Jean Bennett and Sylilia Lamb Anderson.

Leon leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Alta Fritz; son, Leon Anthony “Tony” Fritz of Los Angeles, CA; daughter, Pamela Jackson (Bryant), Lee’s Summit, MO; grandchildren, LaTonya Thompson, Makhaela Williams (Bryson), Jasmine Brown, Bryant Jackson (Nyeisha), and Taylor Jackson; great-grandchildren, Trevon Thompson, Angel Larry, Jeremiah Brown and Zoë Jackson; step-children, LaDonna Cartwright, Stephen Cartwright (Gina), Brian Cartwright (Exsellsa) and W.C. I was sorry to hear of Leon’s passing. I worked with him as a letter carrier at South Troost Station, starting in 1983. He was ALWAYS smiling, laughing and very outgoing.
