Leroy Speer, 63, Savannah, passed away peacefully Monday, August 6, 2012 at the VA Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., surrounded by family and friends.
He was born on February 3, 1949 in St. Joseph, one of ten children of Frank and Dorothy Speer.
He enjoyed riding his electric wheelchair all around the town of Savannah, Mo., and never met a stranger.
Survivors include, his wife, Anne, of the home; three step-children, Elinor, Colin and Edward Watts; and his six children, Denny, Melanie and Bridget Speer, all of St. Joseph; Shane and Kayla Speer, of Savannah; Jennifer Speer, of Florida; Jenny Smith, of Cameron, Mo.; Michelle and Jeff Speer; 17 grandchildren and his much loved dog, Albert, the dachshund who was his constant companion.
Leroy is also survived by four sisters, Pat (Vern) Still, of St. Joseph; Joyce Richardson, of Ridgeway, Mo.; Bonnie (Rick) Rose, of Lawrence, Kan.; Marilyn (George) Larson, of Amazonia, Mo.; brothers, Rodney (Ronda) Speer, of St. Joseph; Melvin (Jana) Speer, Kansas City, Kan.; and one special aunt, Margaret Hamilton.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ronald and Jack Speer; and sister, Margaret Cole.
Celebration of Life: 11 a.m. Friday, August 10, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph.
