Leslie Lee Barton

Leslie Lee Barton, Leslie Lee was born August 8th, 1946, the daughter of Mary Frances Atwood and Floyd Atwood. The couple soon divorced shortly after Leslie’s birth and Mary Atwood soon met and married Ralph Jackson Greathouse. Ralph and Mary took their daughter and moved to Deepwater Missouri, where they went on to have four other children, one of which they lost a few days after birth. Leslie attended school at Deepwater and became a cheerleader and a runner-up for Deepwater Labor Day Queen. She left Deepwater and moved to Kansas City, to live with their grandmother ,Thelma Van Dola. In her 20’s, she went to work for Nazarene publishing House where, she met and married Vernon Scharer. The couple had two children, Dawn Renee Scharer and Tonya Lynn Scharer. Leslie and Vernon eventually divorced, and Leslie went on to marry Jeff Barton. Jeff and Leslie remain married, until his death in 2015. Leslie lost her oldest daughter September 15th , 2014 at the age of 47, Dawn Renee Christopher . Losing her daughter was almost the death of her, if she had not left her such a beautiful granddaughter and wonderful son-in-law, I don’t think she would have made it through it. Steve Christopher and Hannah Christopher along with her other daughter Tonya Scharer and Granddaughter Brittany Scharer, help give her the will to live. She loved flowers and can make anything bloom and grow. She had a cat named Lucy who, she loved very much. Leslie was a great cook she made the best homemade tacos, lasagna, and German chocolate cake, those were just some of her specialties.

Leslie was preceded in death by both her parents, Ralph Greathouse and Mary Wigham My baby brother Timothy Paul Greathouse, sister Thelma Jean Beckham, stepsister Beverly Fuller and stepbrother Robert Greathouse. Her hardest loss was her daughter Dawn Renee Christopher, from what she never fully recovered. Leslie Barton passed, peacefully in her sleep of natural causes, March 22nd, 2023.

She is survived by her remaining daughter, Tonya Lynn Scharer, granddaughter Brittany Scharer, granddaughter Hannah Christopher, son-in-law Steve Christopher, sister Celia Sue Greathouse, brother Ralph Greathouse Jr., Brother Floyd Lee Greathouse . Many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Aunts and Uncles, too numerous to mention. She was loved by many, and she will be missed on this Earth. She is having a joyous reunion with all the family that has passed before her.
