Liliane Nadine Chatignoux Rosenshield

Liliane Nadine Chatignoux Rosenshield, 65, Kansas City, MO, a retired professor emeritus of French at Johnson County Community College, died of breast cancer on July 16, 2004, at her home. Liliane was born on October 20, 1938 in Le Creusot, France, to Fermin and Violette Chatignoux. She attended La Sorbonne in Paris, where she completed B.A. and M.A. degrees in English and Literature. She also received a Fulbright Scholarship to the University of Kansas in 1960. Liliane then married Philip Rosenshield and moved to the Kansas City area, where she spent the rest of her life teaching French at Pembroke Hill Country Day School and Johnson County Community College. She was known by hundreds of students for her dynamic and interactive teaching style and her love of French culture, architecture and cuisine. Liliane taught at JCCC for 30 years before retiring in May of 2000. Liliane loved travel, cooking, discussing politics and spending time with family and friends. She was an active member of the Kansas City Chapter of the Alliance Francaise, for which she gave classes in French conversation. She is survived by her daughter, Michele Rosenshield, her son-in-law, Erik Chapman, and her grandson, Reece Chapman. A Memorial gathering will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at her home, 5116 Sunset Drive, Kansas City, MO.
