Linda was born March 31st, 1946 to Vernon & Margret Laffoon. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother and sister. She was very strong and courageous during her four year battle with cancer. She is survived by; husband of 44 years, Ed Jones; son & daughter in law, Darrell & Tammy Jones; daugher & son in law, Shelly & Scott Wright; four grandchildren, Mason, Evan, Collin & Sydney. We will all miss her and know she is in a better place without pain.
Linda was born in Independence and lived in the Kansas City area all her life. Her father was an avid fisherman so her family went to The Lake of the Ozarks a lot while she was growing up. They boated, fished and spent many family vacations there. As a young teenager, she started working in a beauty shop while attending East High School. She met her husband, Ed, when they were sixteen. They dated for four years, then married when she was nineteen years old. Linda worked for Business Mens Assurance Company for eight years. In February of 1972, they had their first child, Darrell. In 1978, her second child, Shelly, was born. She enjoyed parenting and was terrific at keeping everything going in the right direction. In 1987, she decided to return to work, but wanted to be available for the family, so she worked in the office of the R-7 Lee’s Summit School District. Linda worked for nineteen years and retired in 2006 from Campbell Junior High. During the last thirteen years she enjoyed going back to the Lake of the Ozarks with her family and many friends. Linda loved her grandchildren and wanted to do anything that involved them. Playing, babysitting, shopping with and for them. She also enjoyed relaxing on her screened-in-porch reading and watching the birds. Linda loved nature and all animals. 2005 was the beginning of her battle with cancer. She had about five different types of chemo treatments. Some of them were much worse than others, but she was a trooper throughout. Her strong will, determination and work ethic will be a great example for her children and grandchildren. We will all miss her greatly and know she will continue to watch over us from a heavenly place.
TO MY VERY SPECIAL FRIEND, I WILL MISS YOU SO VERY MUCH. SWEET DREAMS AND ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL HEAVENS.
Ed and family, I am so sorry to hear of Linda’s passing. I remember all of the Laffoon children from my childhood, and Linda was my special friend. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Ed and Family–We are so sorry for your loss. Being relative new to the neighborhood, we didn’t have the opportunity to get to know Linda as well as we would have wished, but her caring presence, ethusiasm for life, care for others, and devotion to her family were evident to any who came in contact with her. Unfortunately, we are out of town on Wednesday, but know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Linda was just the sweetest friend and always thinking of others. We admired her great courage and will remember her always !
We want to express our Deepest Sympathy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. It was a pleasure to know and work with you and your family through the years.
We are going to miss you Linda! What a wonderful friend and colleague you were! Jerry and I will never forget your dedicated professionalism at Campbell Middle School. I couldn’t wait to meet you after Jerry raved about how Linda Jones made opening up Campbell Middle School in 1992 a pleasure. He said your hard work and friendliness made everyone else’s jobs easier and more enjoyable.
When I had a chance to come to Campbell in 2001, I was totally excited knowing that a school with a great secretary is a great place to work. His opinion was so correct!
Last year when I was diagnosed with breast cancer you were one of the first to contact me. You said, “How can I help?” We had some good times together didn’t we! Thanks for being there for me during my difficult time! And thanks for being a friend to us both!

I will miss Linda so much. Whenever I see the birds in the backyard, I will remember her and our times watching birds and other wildlife. She was a special friend and I feel so lucky to have known her and shared these last few years with her.
Linda was such a sweet person and lots of fun to know. I am so glad she decided to retire when she did. I remember talking to her about it and asking why she would want to wait another year. She felt loyal to the school and I reminded her she could spend time with Shelly and go to the lake without worrying about coming back to work on Monday. She had that special year with her family because she did leave her job. I loved her in her cute pink hat. I know she didn’t like having to wear it but it looked great on her. She was so cute and pixie like how could it not look great over that beautiful smile. She will be greatly missed by all her bunco group and friends. Linda loved getting a bunco. I know she will never have to bear the pain again of cancer and that she is where we all hope to go someday. She will always be missed.
Ed and rest of family. So sorry about Linda. She was always so nice to me.Im sad that I will be out of town for the service but my thoughts are with you.
I am so blessed to have gotten to know Linda and Ed. Linda was always so easy to spend time with. I enjoyed sharing Thanksgivings, Christmas’and mostly sharing our grandkids. My son couldn’t have had a better mother-in-law. I was so happy that she and Ed loved my son like their own. Everyone will miss Linda but she left alot of love with everyone. We had several discussions about family, I admired her so much

Dear Shelly and Family, My heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family. It is true your Mother is no longer in pain, but now your pain begins…know that I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers. Love, Niccole
I am sorry to hear about your loss, my heart goes out to you and the whole family
Ed, Shelly, and Darrell, you all have been in my thoughts and prayers. We all go way back. Remember the swimming lessons? Linda would sit on the deck and watch and smile. You two were in my LA class and Linda was always there, smiling. Then we moved into your neighborhood and you were there helping with my kids. As we moved on to Campbell together, Linda was always the “calm” in the storm, and usually smiling her way through it all. When I was diagnosed with cancer, she was the one who spent hours with me discussing what I should do and sharing her thoughts. I loved her sassy haircut after the early treatments. I am so glad I had that time with her two weeks ago. She was talking about all of you and the grandkids. I know she will always be with us and encouraging us to smile and take our challenges like she did. What a wonderful lady. How lucky I am to know her. Kim
Dear Ed and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Linda’s passing. I loved doing Linda’s nails and listening to non-stop stories about her children and grandchildren. She was so filled with joy when she spoke of her family. I especially enjoyed all of the pictures she would show me in her “brag book” she would carry around with her. Thank you so much for sharing Linda with me. I only wish I had known her longer. I hope you all find peace and strength during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Linda was a wonderful lady and will be dearly missed by the Ventimiglia family.
Dear Ed, Darryl, Shelly and extended family,
I am so sorry to hear that Linda lost her battle with cancer. She has been in my thoughts throughout this challenge. Cancer patients are a very strong, courageous family in and amongst themselves, as are their caregivers. I know that Linda has left a legacy of love and friendship for us all! Live fully for her with the gift of time.
Ed & Shelly – our prayers continue for you and your families in this difficult time. Linda was wonderful, as you know, and she will be missed.

Though nothing can ease the loss of Linda in all of our hearts, I feel so blessed that she walked BESIDE me during my cancer journey. Upon my lung cancer diagnosis, Linda immediately contacted me to see how she could help (though she was fighting her own battle at the time). She and Shelly would visit me at home and hospital, bake me favorites, and always be there as a shoulder to cry on….and Boy! Did I ever! Linda was my strength and inspiration as I lost my hair, tried on hats, sat in chemo and radiation treatments- Linda was there for me like no one else could be! As she left for hospice care last Monday, I said “Linda, it’s time to go home”. I am so glad I was able to see her smile in response, and so happy she is now pain-free, cancer free in her heavenly home. She blessed my life and I am so thankful.
Words can not express how sorry I am for your family’s loss. She will be greatly missed from all od us.I will be praying for you all in this hard time.
Ed,Shelly and family, We are so sorry for your loss. Linda was a wonderful person and she will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with you.

We love you and miss you Linda…for so many years she cared for me as her own–a second “mom” for sure. I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow evening to celebrate the life of an amazing woman!
What a beautiful tribute, for a beautiful person, inside and out. My aunt took so many photos, and now I know we’re all thankful to have these memories. The slideshow is evidence of the many people that loved her. Her niece, Angie

What a wonderful video. Thank you for sharing the snapshots of Linda and her everlasting smile.
Ed, Darrell and Shelley,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Linda was such a kind and beautiful woman. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Dear Ed & family.
You will never know what an inspiration Linda was to me and how she was the backbone of BCMS. The first thing I ever did and the smartist thing was to hire Linda as the Lead Secretary at Campbell in 1991. She was and still is the heart and soul of that school. She was such a great person and cared for all of us. Everytime I drive by Campbell I see the tree planted for her and always think of her. she is is God’s Hands now and I am sure she is making sure everything is just right in Heaven.
God be with each of you!!
Dennis & Debbie Smith
Ed, Shelly & Darrell: A best friend is a sister destiny forget to give you. Linda will always be in my heart…I loved her so. Terry
Shelly and family,
We are saddened to hear of your loss. I will never forget working with Linda my senior year in high school (97). She took me under her wing and was so sweet. She has one of the kindest, sweetest personalities I’ve ever come across, and I will always remember her fondly.
Big hugs to you as you go through this hard time. I know from talking to you, Shelly, how much she meant to you. You will be in our prayers as you grieve this wonderful woman.
Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay, leaving footprints on our heart, and we are never, ever the same. She was so important to the Miller family and words can’t express the sorrow we feel from her loss. Love to you Edward, Shelly, Darrell and families.
Dear Ed, Darrell, Shelly and family;
We were so saddened when we heard that Linda had passed away. Our hearts are heavy and our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to all of you. I got to know Linda and the family as a child, when Ed and my father worked together for many years at Whirlpool Corporation. Linda, Ed, and my parents were good friends. Some of my fondest memories were when I spent time with Linda, Ed, Darrell and Shelly. I always looked foward to the time that I would get to see them. We would often go to the Royals games, company picnics, backyard barbecues, or to their lake house. Linda was always so welcoming, friendly, loving and full of laughter. She always made me feel like I was part of her family, and I think of Linda, Ed, Darrell and Shelly as part of my family. I can say that I was blessed to have Linda as a friend. We will deeply miss her and we love you Linda.
