Lois McCallister Sublett died peacefully with family at her side in her home in Columbia, MO, on January 10, 2016. She was 83.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Thomas Sublett, and her parents, Evalyne and Marion (Mac) McCallister.
She graduated from Hickman High School and married Tom in 1950. Together they raised their five children and lived in Ardmore, OK; Rolla, St. Louis and Jefferson City, MO; and Madison, Connecticut. They returned briefly to the Lake of the Ozarks before retiring permanently to Melbourne Beach, FL, in the early 1990s. Lois returned to Columbia, MO, to be closer to family.
Lois enjoyed waterskiing and playing the piano. She taught piano and was the pianist for church services. She also was a professional hairdresser and owned her own salon in Jefferson City, MO.
Lois is survived by her children, Michele Smith, Vicki Sublett and Anthony Sublett, Columbia, MO; Gary Sublett, Jefferson City, MO; and Valerie Shippers, Madison, AL; six grandchildren, Nicole, Samantha, Nick and Kitrell Sublett; Lyndsey Wilson, Chandler Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Gracie, and Bodhi Wilson and Hudson Smith; and her sister Ann Brown-Harrah, Naples, FL.
A private celebration of her life will be held by the family in the next few weeks. The family would like to express our appreciation to the staff at TigerPlace and her friends for their kindness and support.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local food bank in her honor.
Lois was a dear lady. I worked at Tigerplace, as a chef, and always enjoyed chatting with her. She was a compassionate soul, often asking about those who’d been sick. She would also introduce herself to new residents and try to make them feel “at home”. We can honor her legacy by following her example.
