Lola Mae Enss

Lola Mae Enss, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on April 8, 2025, at the age of 88.

Born on July 2, 1936, in Topeka, Kansas, to Adolph Peach and Viola Keen Peach, Lola was one of eight children. She married Walter James Enss on August 28, 1953 and celebrated 64 years of marriage prior to his death in 2017.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter and her son James Wesley Enss.

Lola is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Rhonda Enss and her daughter and son-in-law Diana and John Rice, and by her beloved grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren: Justin Enss, Jessica De La Torre, Ashley Brazeal, Cameron Armes, Rachelle Lowe, Erica Schlotman, DJ Nunez, Meaghan Payne, Hannah Ciston, and Jon Rice. She has one surviving sister Ruby Chazar.

Lola’s life revolved around her family. When you came to visit, she was always ready to jump up and fix you a meal or bring you a cold drink. She was a fantastic cook—her fried chicken and mashed potatoes were certainly family favorites. Her kitchen was often filled with the smells of home-cooked meals and she loved to have everyone over for holidays.

Prior to her retirement, Lola was employed by the Fort Osage School District and the Independence School District as a cafeteria manager. She poured her heart and soul into her cooking for the students and staff.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Heartland Cremation and Burial Society, 6113 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO 64133. A graveside service will follow at Mount Washington Cemetery in Independence, Missouri. Family and friends are warmly invited to join in remembering her life and sharing treasured memories.
