Lyle H. Chappell passed on to his heavenly home peacefully on Sunday, January 16, 2011, at Benchmark Healthcare of Raytown.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at Plaza Heights Baptist Church, followed by a celebration service at 3:00 pm.
Lyle was born July 23, 1934, in Osborn, Missouri, to Joseph and Lola Mae Chappell. He attended Hannibal LaGrange College where he met the love of his life, Barbara Sue Graham, whom he married in 1956. He graduated from California Baptist College in 1965. He pastored Southern Baptist churches in Missouri and California for 40 years.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara; four sons: Larry (Vanesa), Steve Jennifer), Randy (Ann), and Tim (Margaret); and eight grandchildren: Dustin Emily) and Danita; Chris and Katie; and Jessica, Justin, Logan, and Jacob; three sisters: Phyllis Dixon, Francis Green, Carol Noel. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Stewart and Leon; and one sister, Euphora Crane.
Lyle enjoyed fishing, gardening, and sports. He was an avid fan of the Missouri Tigers, Kansas City Royals, and Kansas City Chiefs. He loved dogs. He was especially fond of his Shelties and Siberian Huskies.
