Marcia Ruth McLaughlin of Olathe, KS, formerly of Phoenix, AZ passed away on June 23, 2020 from complications of cancer. Marcia was born in Mexico, MO on March 8, 1945. She met her husband, Tom, in college at Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, MO. They were married January 29, 1966.
She is remembered by family and friends as a beautiful, warm, caring, giving person who loved her family and her music. Marcia worked in Human Services government in Missouri and Arizona before taking leave to be with and travel with her husband. Marcia and Tom lived almost 40 years in Phoenix, celebrated over 55 years together and were long time members of Dayspring United Methodist Church in Tempe, AZ.
In addition to her devotion to her husband and son, Mike, and his family, Marcia’s great love was her music. She had a beautiful voice and sang first alto for the Dayspring Chorale for over 30 years. She toured the US and Europe with the Chorale and was blessed to sing at St. Peter’s in Rome, Notre Dame in Paris, the Mozart Festival in Salzburg Austria, St. Patrick’s in Dublin Ireland and many more churches and cathedrals on tour as well as Sunday services and hundreds of concerts at Dayspring.
Marcia and Tom travelled often and favorite places included the wine country of Napa Valley, Santa Fe, San Francisco and Maui. She was an incredible hostess and particularly loved celebrating Christmas with the music and her family at that Holiday time of year.
She is survived by her husband, Tom, son Mike, daughter-in-law Sarah, grandchildren Claudia (Teddy), Brady and Aidan and great grandchildren, Judd and Juliet, all of Olathe, in addition to her brother and sister-in-law, John and Jane Hopkins of Popular Bluff, and many wonderful brothers- and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
Marcia’s final earthly home will be in the Reflection Garden at Olathe (Kansas) Memorial Cemetery. Services will be Friday, July 3, 2020. Her family requests per her wish, that in her memory, donations be made to the Dayspring Chorale which she loved. Please address those to the Dayspring Chorale at Dayspring United Methodist Church, 1365 E Elliott Rd, Tempe, AZ 85284 or on line at www.dayspringumc/give and click on her memorial account.
